After enjoying a meal at Kaufman or The Cage, North Central College students can do their part in going green by disposing of their plate properly.

Located behind the stairway in Kaufman is a compost bin where students can dispose of any crumbs or left-over scraps. Instead of throwing out the scraps into trash, compost helps the earth by giving back to it.

Compost bins can be used to fertilize gardens and is a green alternative to using chemical fertilizer. Composting helps to protect and enrich the soil, so it is beneficial to use.

WHAT CAN BE COMPOSTED?

  • Paper products; such as, napkins, paper cups, paper plates

  • Food scraps; such as, left overs, dairy, bone

The dining areas, Kaufman and The Cage, also provide a list of what can and cannot be composted so no worries!

Disposing of left overs is as simple as pushing everything on the plate off into the bin and putting the plate away for washing; this small action is a big contribution to going green.
